Easter Seals Chooses Sears Tower for New Headquarters (2007-08-03)
by PRNewswire
Sears Tower today proudly announced that Easter Seals (http://www.easterseals.com/) has signed a long-term lease to relocate its headquarters to the landmark Chicago skyscraper.
Easter Seals -- which has been providing services for people with autism, development disabilities, physical and mental disabilities for more than 85 years -- will move to the 24th floor of Sears Tower (http://www.searstower.com/) from its current offices at 230 W. Monroe St. in Chicago.
The new Sears Tower headquarters will give Easter Seals the ability to continue expanding its offices beyond its initial 25,401 RSF as it expects to continue growing from its current staff of about 100 employees. The first 49 stories of Sears Tower feature efficient 50,000-square-foot floors, which often appeal to larger organizations who want their employees to work together on a single floor.
"Easter Seals continues to grow, with our revenues exceeding $1 billion for the first time last year. We want the option to keep all our people together without elevator trips from floor to floor, even in the years to come as we continue hiring to expand our mission of helping people with disabilities," said James E. Williams, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Easter Seals, Inc. "There's also the prestige that comes with a Sears Tower address. Being in a landmark like this only will enhance our storied reputation."
Remaining in the West Loop near the major Metra rail stations, a half-block from the CTA "L" stop at Quincy Street and close to all the major expressways was also important to the Easter Seals workforce, Williams said.
"While at Sears Tower we are best known for our high-end corporate tenants, it will be great to have such a wonderful charity here. The work Easter Seals has done to help people with physical and mental disabilities over the years is truly remarkable. We are proud that work will now be directed from our building," said John Huston, a member of the Sears Tower ownership group and Executive Vice President of Skokie-based American Landmark Properties, Inc.
Easter Seals is currently planning its new office space and expects to move in no later that February 2009. The lease runs for 12 years. ProTen Realty Group represented Easter Seals, while John Dempsey of CB Richard Ellis represented Sears Tower. U.S. Equities Realty assumed leasing and management responsibility for Sears Tower in April 2007 and is coordinating Easter Seals' move into the building.
